Passenger Locator Forms (DPLFs) are used by public health authorities across the world at the moment, because of the ongoing pandemic.

They’re used to facilitate contact tracing in case travellers are exposed to an infectious disease during travel by airplane, ship (cruise/ferry), rail, bus or car. During your Erasmus+ mobility the information that you provide in your PLFs may be used by public health authorities in destination countries. If you were exposed during travel to anyone with an infectious disease, you will be contacted quickly. The goal is to protect your health and the health of all of your contacts, and to prevent further spread of disease.

Countries that require completion of a PLF are currently using paper-based passenger locator forms or have developed their own national online systems. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, a web application for a European Digital Passenger Locator Form (DPLF) has been developed to facilitate the use of PLFs during cross-border health threats, and these are also used for Erasmus+ mobilities. This digital format allows easier and more rapid data collection and exchange between all of those using the forms, making contact tracing more effective and efficient.

Going forwards, any Erasmus+ students entering a country using the European DPLF web application (no matter how they travelled – air, boat, train, bus or car) will be asked to complete their information online. To do so, students must use the designated European DPLF web application. The form will record the students’ addresses, where they’re staying, tickets and travel plans.

Each country has its own policy regarding who must complete the PLF. For example some countries require just one family member to complete the form on behalf of a whole family. Other countries require all adults to fill in their own, individual form. Check the requirements of your destination country before you travel.

Generally, you will have to enter the following personal information:

  • Name
  • Last name
  • Identification document number (identity card or passport)
  • Phone number
  • Residential address
  • Travel information
  • Arrival date
  • Residence address
  • Previous accommodation
  • Travel companions
  • Emergency contact

Dont’ forget to fill your PLF within 48 hours before entering your Erasmus+ hosting country.
